Based on the materials of the Assemblies, the Museum of Care plans to publish an anthology with the working title “Education as Freedom and Care,” which will include a text by David Graeber, as well as selected texts by the participants of the Museum of Care Assemblies.

How to make your own Assembly

We are happy to announce the first curatorial collective of the Museum of Care for June and July 2021 with the topic: education and (anti)institutions.

The Museum of Care was initiated in memory of David Graeber as a non-institutional space in which people of different social, economic, and cultural backgrounds can engage in dialogue about education, culture, care, and freedom.

Another starting point for the Museum of Care was Alexander Bogdanov’s project Proletkult, which built a network of DIY educational initiatives throughout the socialist countries of the 20th century. That is why it seemed important that the first curatorial topic of the Museum of Care would initiate a discussion about the status of education, its relation to institutions, and their response to different types of pressures.

The Museum of Care and Critical Studies Department in collaboration with Andris Brinkmanis, Zasha Colah and Archive Milano invites students and independent collectives, activists and established educational initiatives to participate in the discussion.

Here is an open call. Please, help us to distribute it!

Here is our map.

Critical Studies Department is a fictitious department, an experimental research space conceived by the students of the MA in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies, NABA during the first lockdown due to Covid-19 pandemic. It is an experiment born from the desire to collaborate and transform reality, creating new possible alternatives.

We hope to create a space where the most unexpected initiatives can meet each other. We’ve all been talking about a Revolution in Education for too long! Let’s try to define how we see it!

We have now run several assemblies including:

24-06-2021 – ORGANISATIONAL ASSEMBLY

29-07-2021 – Education and anti-Institution

25-05-2022 – UNEDUCATION: OPEN ASSEMBLY ZAGHREB, PART I

30-06-2022 – UNEDUCATION: OPEN ASSEMBLY MILAN, PART II: UNLEARNING

Based on the materials of the Assemblies, the Museum of Care plans to publish an anthology with the working title “Education as Freedom and Care,” which will include a text by David Graeber, as well as selected texts by the participants of the Museum of Care Assemblies.
