Barış Eser is an urban anthropologist at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He is doing his PhD on the aftermath of the 2023 Turkey-Syria earthquakes. He is also interested in squatting and housing struggles, politics of food, and history of technology.
He is a volunteer for DGI, co-curator of the Survival Kit Collection and an organizer of the Visual Assembly in Vienna, as well as the co-organizer of the institute’s presence at the 39th Chaos Communication Congress. He has also been involved in organizing squatted spaces in Rottedam which try to connect with the neighborhood and explore collective practices around food.
